Gertrude B. Sayre was the wife of Robert H. Sayre, manager of the Smuggler mine near Telluride, Colorado. The Smuggler mine was discovered by John Fallon in the mid-1870s, and the mine produced silver ores with traces of gold and lesser metals throughout the latter nineteenth and the first half of the twentieth centuries.
